Father's Day Pocket Card

Wow - Father's Day is almost here!  Glad I have this card ready to go.  I loved the cute mustache/bow tie stamp set the CTMH had in the last Seasonal Expressions Catalog (unfortunately, it retired at the end of April).  I had seen a pocket card on Pinterest that I thought would work well the give the look of a shirt.  The Magical paper from CTMH worked great for it because it is double-sided, so the collar is just turned down, giving the new pattern!

I am entering this card in two challenges this week - the Heart2Heart "The Ties That Bind" challenge and the "Holiday" challenge over at Addicted to Stamps and More.

You can see how the card pulls out of the pocket to reveal the greeting for that special dad!
A really fun card to make.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my work -
and hope you have a great weekend with the fathers in your life!

July 3 update - I was thrilled to find out that I was selected as the "TOP ADDICT"
with this card over at the Addicted to Stamps and More challenge!!!  Thanks!

CTMH Flash Sale!

It's time for this week's FLASH SALE from Close to My Heart!

Here is a link to my CTMH website so you can take advantage of this sale.  Once on this shopping page, click on the FLASH SALE option on the left hand menu.  This will show you all of the offers for this weekend.
Remember - these special bundles are only available from 2 pm this afternoon until 2 pm on Monday.  And they are WHILE SUPPLIES LAST - so once they are gone, the bundle deal is not available again.  The individual items may still be available, but I can't guarantee how long any of the retiring products will remain in stock.
Looking for suggestions of what to create with these bundled products?  Head over to the CTMH blog and see what they are showcasing with this weekend's products.
https://blog.closetomyheart.com/

If you decide there is something you want to order, I have a special incentive for you.  For each order you place during the Flash Sales (each weekend through the end of the month), you will be entered into a drawing for $25 of free hostess rewards!  This is in addition to the product credit that you earn if you attend the monthly Stamp Club classes.  Just be sure to JOIN the Flash Sales Order gathering on my CTMH website.  Here's what you are looking for - just click on the JOIN button and you are set.  It will take you straight to the shopping page, or you can find the same button when you are looking at what you've added to your shopping cart.
You can go ahead and place your own order, or let me know to place it for you. Because these items are while supplies last, I will not hold on to any orders to group them with someone else - I don't know when the next order will come in, and I don't want anyone to lose out on a great deal. So expect to pay the $4.95 minimum shipping charge on your order.

Email me at scrappingailaz@gmail.com if you want me to place your order - and please include a phone number so I can call and get your payment information. You can either use your credit/debit card for the order or I can give you the total and a link so you can PayPal the money from your bank account at no charge.

Have fun checking out this week's specials!

Adventure Birthday Card

This week my younger son will be celebrating his birthday.  He just started an engineering internship down in Tucson, so we won't be spending time with him on his special day.  But he's always had a sense of adventure, and I wanted to use this cute Penny Black boy image.  It just fits him. And the design from Freshly Made Sketches this week was perfect!  Be sure to hop over there and check out the other great cards the talented participants have entered in the challenge.

I used several coloring methods on the image - colored pencils blended with odorless mineral spirits as well as alcohol markers.  The papers are from Passages - a long retired set from CTMH, but still hanging around in may stash!

Thanks for stopping by - and I hope your week is filled with wonderful adventures!

SLIDER CARD - Moving on Down the Highway!

Several months ago my classes made a spinner card, where our sun spun around a circle track on the front of the card.  I wanted to show another way to get object movement on a card without the weight and bulk of the pennies required for the spinner card.  So a slider card was our project. I used the Stamp of the Month from CTMH - The Long Way Home - that will be available throughout the month of June (and added a few stamps from a couple of other sets to get just the right images and sentiments!).  Heart2Heart Challenges has a "Transportation" challenge running during May, so this card is being entered over there.  Pop over to their blog to see the other projects with this theme!

You can see all of the fun images in this stamp set.  I wanted to make this a card that could be used for birthdays or even Father's Day, so I used my handy-dandy micro-tip scissors and cut off (yes, I cut my stamps) the word "SCENIC" from the image at the bottom right.  I always cut at an angle so I can match it up again when I want to use the original sentiment on a project.  This gave me the option of adding a different event on the front of the card.  I found both the "Birthday" and "Father's Day" sentiments on different sets, but they worked great.  We stamped the "Route" first and then fit the appropriate event stamp where it needed to be.  This is such a great way to get extra mileage from your stamps!

It was fun to create the look of a highway by using Whisper cardstock and CTMH's
Chalk Marker to draw the lane lines.  The car can now travel down the highway and stay on track!

For those who love the old VW vans, we had the option of using that image on the card front.
Here's a list of everything I used on the card.  All of the materials are from CTMH except where noted.

Flamingo Side Step Card

CTMH introduced a new set of thin cut dies and stamps the beginning of May - these cute flamingos.  Since my mom LOVES flamingos, I had to make her a card with them.  I've actually made several variations of the card which you will soon see!  This side-step card will be a part of my June Stamp Club classes, and I'm also entering it into the Fun Folds challenge over on the Heart2Heart Challenge Blog. Be sure to check out the other great creations on that site.

I love the specialty cards, and thought that these flamingos needed to be showcased on something that would really make them stand out!  The flamingo shapes were first cut from cardstock and then stamped, and I gave the wings a bit of dimension with glue dots.  I actually glued a second flamingo shape to the back of the stamped image to give them more stability on the card - you know those skinny little legs wouldn't do the trick!

I used some nesting dies for the scalloped rectangles and punches for the circles.  All of the grass and waves are cut with the Cricut then embossed and the edges are inked to add dimension.

All of the patterned papers are from the new Calypso paper pack from CTMH.

Here's a list of what I used - all are from CTMH unless stated otherwise:
Stamps
Tickled Pink (C1651)
Dies
Tickled Pink Thin Cuts (Z3228)
Nestabilities Scalloped Rectangles
Papers
Calypso Paper Pack (X7210B)
White Daisy, Glacier, Pear and Pixie cardstock
Inks
Pixie, Cotton Candy, Glacier, Pear, and Black
Other
Floral Embossing Folder (Z1994) - which is retiring the end of July!
Calypso Sequins (Z3215) - see card below
Bitty Sparkles (Z1263) - see card below
Sponge daubers for inking
Glue Dots
Thin 3-D Mounting Tape

Now on to another version of the card!
A dear friend recently celebrated her birthday, and since there are five of us who join together for these special occasions, I wanted to reflect that on the card.  So here you see the results!  I added some sequins that coordinate with the paper on this card, adding a bitty sparkle in the center of each sequin.

I wanted to find out what a bunch of flamingos is called, so I did a little research.  While some people call them a "flock", I prefer the next option, which is a "flamboyance."  I think it fits the graceful creatures a bit better.

Well, now that I've given you a little vocabulary lesson, I guess I'm ready to sign off!  Thanks for stopping by, and hope you have a wonderful start to the month of June.

Shaker Card that is "Tu Tu Cute"

Seize the Birthday Challenge this week was to add dimension - well, I think a shaker card dancing hippo popped up in front of the shaking elements qualifies!!!  I love this little girl who seems to be having a lot of fun - and I think the ladies in my June classes will have fun making her as well.  We are exploring "The Kid in All of Us" at our Stamp Club classes next month.  I'll be posting more information about that soon.

The stamp set is called "Safari Ballet" (CTMH) and also includes a very tall giraffe in a tutu as well.

Be sure to check out the other great dimensional cards over at the Seize the Birthday blog.
Thanks for checking out my entry.

Clean and Simple Birthday Card

The design at CAS(E) this Sketch this week three elements with the sentiment over the top.  What better way to celebrate a birthday than with cake, candles and a balloon!

The balloon is cut from CTMH's Artiste Cricut cartridge and the "Celebrate" is a new die I recently bought from Papertrey Ink.  I used some beautiful silver foil paper that was in my stash.  The cupcake is from the Kaleidoscope Card Workshop from CTMH - I stamped the frosting part on the new Calypso paper and added it to the base part.  The candle has been in may stash for a loooong time.

I am also entering this card in the Addicted to Stamps Clean and Simple challenge this week.

This card will be a part of the June Stamp Club classes - more information will be coming soon.

Hop over to both of these challenge blog and get inspired!

SANDCASTLE ON THE BEACH

I fell in love with the sand castle stamp, and decided that the sketch for Mojo Monday this week was perfect - it allowed me to fit all the elements I wanted without them overwhelming the focal point.  The tilted panels show  the seaside background, while the sand castle is popped up over the circle.

I created the background by inking my acrylic block, then spritzing it with water before applying it the paper.  It creates a great watercolor look.  The blue was applied first, and the "sand" was created with a wavy block that overlapped the blue.  Waves were then stamped on the water and I grabbed an embossing folder that I haven't used in quite a while for the clouds in the sky.  The same embossing folder was used on the blue panel, but I used the debossed side for that shape.

I used a colonial white pigment ink and sponged it on the kraft paper before stamping the sand castle to give it some dimension.  That image is then popped up over a double circle.

I couldn't resist the phrase for the inside of the card.  The beach ball was cute, and what better way to celebrate a birthday!  I used a brad from my stash - gosh, I hardly use those any more.  But because of that and the older embossing folder, I am entering this card in the "Shopping our Stash" challenge this week with a Sounds of the Sea theme.

This card will be a part of June's Stamp Club, with the theme - The Kid in All of Us!  More information will be coming about that.  Meanwhile, here's a list of what I used - all from CTMH unless stated otherwise.

Beach Life (D1691)
Lovely Day (B1462) - inside sentiment
Wonderful Words: Birthday (#2641 from Papertry Ink) - front sentiment

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I want to wish everyone out there in blogland a very Happy Mother's Day!
This is the card I gave my mom while visiting her in Nebraska last week.
Here we are visiting the Omaha Zoo - always a favorite destination.

The paper is from the new Happy Times paper pack from CTMH -
a special only during May to celebrate National Scrapbooking Month.
You will notice there is a coordinating stamp set for this set.  That's what I used to create the floral grouping at the bottom of my card.
The paper can be purchased at retail price for $14.95 - but you can get it for FREE if you place a $60 order in May.  The Happy Times stamp set sells for $17.95 - and that purchase gets you on your way to the free paper pack!

Check out my CTMH website for all the great products that coordinate with this set.  You'll notice that I have used some pink enamel gems in the centers of the flowers.  The options are endless!

WATERCOLOR BACKGROUND ON A SEASIDE CARD

Wow!  I had no idea it had been so long since I posted on my blog.  I'll have to do a better job of keeping track of blog postings and Facebook page postings!  It's been a busy month, and May looks like it will be much the same.  But I'm excited to be working on guy cards for the May classes.  I love lighthouses, and that seemed like the perfect image to work with for a watercolor background.  Everyone seems to be doing watercolor these days, and I want to give the gals in the classes a chance to play with them.  I actually didn't even use traditional watercolors on this - just re-inkers with water.  I did, however, make use of some of CTMH's non-textured watercolor paper - it works so well, and when the background is dry, you can stamp right on top of it.  I love that!

I was inspired by this week's challenge over at Stamp Ink Paper, and the design at Tuesday Morning Sketches worked well for this card.  I didn't add any ribbon to the card, but the sentiment takes the place of the bow on the sketch.

In addition to the watercolors and stamping, there is a bit of paper piecing on this card.  The lighthouse image had some open areas where the colors of the background were showing through.  In order to make it look a bit more like a silhouette, I stamped the lighthouse again on the slate grey cardstock, cut it out and put it over the stamped image.  This also let it extend beyond the colored panel, adding dimension to the front of the card.

Here's a list of what I used on the card - everything is from CTMH:
Papers:
Kraft, Sunset, Slate, Black, and Colonial White cardstock
Watercolor paper (Z3146)
Stamps:
Seaside Greetings (D1609) - lighthouse
Perfect Day (retired) - bird on fence
Holiday Tags (retired) - sentiment
Inks:
Black ink pad
Sunset, Canary, Champagne, Cashmere, Whisper and Glacier re-inkers
Other:
Stripe Embossing Folder (Z1960)
Thin 3-D Foam Tape (Z2060)
Circle punches

Here's another version of the card.  You never know what a watercolor background is going to look like, so I tried putting the lighthouse on the other side!

Be sure to check out the other cards at Tuesday Morning Sketches and Stamp Ink Paper Challenge Blog.

Thanks for stopping by!  And check back if you are interested in joining one of my May classes.  We'll have three other projects for the men in your life besides this one!
