RHAPSODY IN BLUE AT HEART 2 HEART CHALLENGE

I think Mary Poppins would have liked flying this kite!!!  That song goes through my head everytime I look at this card.  And the blue sky is the perfect touch for the "Rhapsody in Blue" theme.  So this card worked well for the challenge over at Heart 2 Heart.  It was posted back at the beginning of June, but luckily we have all month to share the work.  I displayed this card at the recent Consultant Creative Showcase at the CTMH Convention, so wanted to wait until I came home to post it.

The first time I saw this Windy Day stamp set (D1579) I knew what I would do - a side step card with my favorite little spring for the kite.  I've had the Martha Stewart fringe scissors for several years and rarely use them, but they were perfect for the grass.  I wanted the hill, so using the cuts on the CTMH Cricut cartridges wasn't a good option.

You can see how well the spring lifts the kite off the page.  I used embroidery floss for the string and ran it behind the girl, wrapping it around the spool for some realism.

The cloud is embossed with white (and I'm so glad that CTMH has brought back the embossing powders!!) and used the White Daisy reinker with an eye makeup applicator to color it in.

The flowers are from an old Stamp of the Month - Flowering Bunch.

I used colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits to color the little girl, and used a combination of old markers on the flowers.  Can't wait to try the new alcohol markers that will be in the Annual Inspirations Book from CTMH beginning in August!

"Fly" on over to the Heart 2 Heart Challenge Blog to see the other blue projects with an optional music theme.  And thanks for taking time to stop by my blog!

  1. This is adorable! Love the layers and textures of the cut grass. I smiled when I read you use an eye makeup applicator! I use makeup brushes all the time in my crafting room! My husband might prefer I spend more time using this on my face, but.........
